Southern Ohio Medical Center Selects CPOE from Meta to Complete Core Clinical Information System

FLORAL PARK, NYJanuary 26, 2010 — Meta, a supplier of comprehensive clinical information systems for the healthcare industry, announced today that Southern Ohio Medical Center (SOMC), located in Portsmouth, Ohio, has selected the company's computerized prescriber order entry (CPOE) system, MetaCare CPOE.

MetaCare CPOE provides hospitals such as SOMC with an innovative CPOE system with an added focus on medication safety. A highly-functional order entry solution designed to reduce the complexity of order entry, MetaCare CPOE simplifies key processes, increases efficiency and helps eliminate serious errors associated with manual prescribing. Through MetaCare CPOE, SOMC will be able to process all inpatient orders, provide fully integrated closed loop medication safety and improve communication with all related clinicians and departments.

“SOMC chose MetaCare CPOE to be the capstone of our EHR portfolio because of its inherent integration with the other Meta products currently in place at our facility,” stated Brent Richard, Director of Information Services for SOMC. “MetaCare CPOE, MetaCare Enterprise eMAR, MetaCare Intellidocs and MetaCare Enterprise RX all operate on a single database and present a logical, cohesive user interface to physicians and nurses in the acute care setting. Everyone at Meta has worked extremely hard to provide excellent patient care tools, and we are very excited to be in the final phase of our acute care vision with Meta. With the addition of MetaCare CPOE, we are confident that the Meta-SOMC partnership will achieve 'Meaningful Use' of our EHR and enable us to move to Stage Seven of EHR adoption.”

A key design feature of MetaCare CPOE is its ability for hospitals to control clinical screening in each module in order to avoid alert fatigue. Furthermore, unlike many purported integrated systems, all MetaCare products are integrated into a common SQL database, eliminating redundant data and interfaces between modules.

“With the browser-based design and portability of our CPOE solution, SOMC has secure access from remote locations throughout the facility,” explained Sal Barcia, CEO of Meta. “We look forward to this challenging project that will successfully complete the job at SOMC that we began in 2005, vastly improving productivity and patient safety.”
